GitHub has announced the release of Copilot-SWE, a new experimental model within GitHub Copilot, now accessible for users of Visual Studio Code Insiders as part of a technical preview.
What is Copilot-SWE?
GitHub Copilot-SWE is optimized specifically for:
- Code editing tasks
- Refactoring
- Small code transformations
It is designed for use within GitHub Copilot in VS Code, especially in any Chat Mode in VS Code. To get the best results, users are encouraged to write detailed prompts or utilize prompt files.
How to Access Copilot-SWE
- Available to all GitHub Copilot individual users through VS Code Insiders
- Rollout is gradual—ensure you have the latest version of VS Code Insiders
- If you don’t see Copilot-SWE yet, check back later as rollout continues
