Anthropic Claude Opus 4.1 Is Now in Public Preview in GitHub Copilot

Overview

Anthropic’s newest and most capable model, Claude Opus 4.1, is now available in GitHub Copilot. This model is an advancement over Claude Opus 4, with enhanced logical reasoning, extended tool use, and improved summary capabilities.

Availability in GitHub Copilot

  • Target Plans: Claude Opus 4.1 is accessible to users on the Copilot Enterprise and Pro+ plans.
  • Where to Access:
    • GitHub Copilot Chat: Available on github.com, Visual Studio Code, and GitHub Mobile via the chat model picker.
    • Visual Studio Code: Claude Opus 4.1 is available only in ask mode.
  • Rollout Details:
    • The rollout is gradual and will occur over several hours. Users who do not yet see access should check back later.
    • Claude Opus 4 will remain available in the model picker but will be deprecated in 15 days.

Enabling Access

  • For Administrators:
    • Copilot Enterprise administrators must enable access to Claude Opus 4.1 through a new policy in Copilot settings.
    • Administrators can verify availability in individual Copilot settings.
    • Once enabled, users will see the new model in the Copilot Chat model selector.
